The impact of heat treatment is increasing considerably as machines are becoming smaller and smaller and, at the same time, greater loads have to be transmitted. An advantage of hardened machine parts is their durability and, thus, their service life time. As the impact differs between the various parts heat treatment has to be adapted accordingly. The steel of gears, for example, has to be kept smooth in the inside and tough at the outside. In contrast, press and cutting dies have to be tough through and through. |
